What to do with all those pads and tampons.

If chemotherapy put your body into menopause you might have a similar experience to me; you open up a bathroom drawer or cabinet to find a supply of sanitary products and you wonder what to do with them. I mean, it's not really the kind of thing you offer a girlfriend. I would have passed them on to my daughter but she uses different products to me. Recently someone sent me a link to this great charity called 'Share the Dignity'. It turns out that along with worrying about cold, hunger and personal safety, homeless women also have a huge problem dealing with their period every month. Sometimes they need to choose between sanitary products or food. Many of them resort to DIY pads using toilet paper.

It occurred to me that there were probably lots of women on this site that, like me, had a drawer full of sanitary products they'd be happy to pass on to a worth cause. Here's the web site that includes collection points all over Australia.

And if you don't have any spare sanitary products, please consider picking some up the next time you're shopping and helping out another woman.

Thanks everyone.

  • Fantastic idea. Funny when I looked there was nowhere in Cairns but just saw on Facebook yesterday that the new CQU campus is a new drop off point. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. hope you doing well
