Two days to go. Question cut my hair..not cut my hair. Really no brainer I know it is difficult to wash and hurts now, so cut it, problem solved. Why I don't ? It brings everything closer to reality.Stupid mind

No not stupid a lot to take in and yes it is a constant reminder of what you are going through. Hopefully you will get used to no hair quickly, I was very surprised how quickly I got used to it. Make sure you have a sleep hat as your head really does get cold.

Hi Peta... It's the letting go of part of ourselves and facing that reality square in the face when you look in the mirror...I didn't lose my hair as I was fortunate to not to need chemo but I lost my breast...and that hit me hard...as I am sure it does most women in our situation dealing with breast cancer. Some our femininity is lost, we lose our shape, our hair...we feel less pretty and we stand out...it's a sign we are sick dealing with cancer...you are no less you and you are still beautiful inside and out...treat yourself and buy some pretty scarves...it will eventually grow back. Hi Peta, I had my hair cut short, always wanted to see how it would look a difference length and style but didn't want to take the risk I wouldn't like it. I did it and it looked nice , so when it started to fall out it wasn't so much of it and I didn't mind so much. It doesn't take long for it all to go. Make sure you have a hat or beanie to wear as your head will get cold especially in bed. I had lots - my sister never stopped knitting. I got used to no hair and didn't mind that much, it was the chemo that made me really ill but that too passed and now 2 years later my hair is long and thick again. Hi Peta I shaved my really long hair 8 days ago after working my up to it for a over a week. I ummmed and arrrred for days - should I, shouldn't I and I really drove my family up the wall. I finally bit the bullet as it was getting too painful. Got instant relief and have had no more pain. It is cold so I am wearing caps to sleep. Having no hair doesn't make me feel more like a cancer patient as I thought it might. Maybe because I am accepting the reality that I AM a cancer patient and hair loss is just another bump in the road. This too shall pass. Good luck and take care Nadine

If its very long cut it. I did mine down to 3cm. At least if that falls out its not great swaths of hair everywhere and if I want to hurry it along theres enough to get a hold of and test pull. I have seen some that shave to the skin but the hair follicles do still fall out or they might get stuck halfway and cause a problem. I get my 1st chemo on Friday so I imagine by the following Friday quite a lot will have fallen out if not all.

Hi ,

It depends on what type of chemo you have. Some you loose your hair and some you don't. I just went with the flow - never bothered me except occasionally for the stares and unkind comments. My head was never itchy and saved on shampoo ! It soon grows back

Hi Brenda I went back to work today - first day back with my head shaved. My scalp is still too sensitive and going bald is much more comfortable that wearing a scarf at the moment. I had a ball laughing at all the comparisons that people made between me and other personalities. My favourite was GI Jane. But I also liked the comparison to the Canberra Magnet Mart guy on the tv ads (Local reference). Lined myself up with 4 other balding guys in my work area and I can honestly say I was the prettiest of the lot! In other words I really embraced the whole baldness thing. Everyone was intrigued but over it in an hour or two. Now it will be normal going forward. I really value their kind hearted jokes that helped put me totally at ease but I think it helped that I set the tone as I didn't walk in there all apprehensive, but was positive instead and joked around first off before anyone got to say anything. This seemed to break the ice and let people know that I was ok with having a laugh about it. Good luck with it.

24yr old son remarked on a dvd this morning how the star trek guy had such a flat bald head, Jean luc Piquard. I am so going to wear a scarf 24/7 now. I don't think I could handle a stray comment like that at myself.

Good luck for chemo my step daughter who works in Medical Cancer research says not all women loose their hair, so it may not happen for you but if it does you probably have a beautiful shaped head.xxxxPeta
