Tightness and pain
3 weeks since my bilateral mastectomy. The tightness is wearing me down. I was fine about the mastectomy and the cancer and even chemo but this constant tightness and skin sensitivity is too much. I ...
I had a single mastectomy 8 weeks ago. I continued the physio exercises that I was shown in hospital. I experienced no pain ... only soreness if I twisted my body sideways. Never needed to take pain killers. I used Moo Goo Skim Milk cream instead of soap when washing the area. There's no tightness (but there was some at the beginning) & the scar line is healing well, just looks like a fine, pale pink line. There's never been any particular skin sensitivity. I wore cotton singlets, one size too big, for the first 5 weeks. Now I'm back to wearing my usual bra (with a small cotton sock bundled up in one cup). I'm only petite, so I wonder if that's why I seem to have got off so lightly. I thanked the wonderful surgeon for all this ... he's got a fantastic reputation & his name had been given me by a specialist in our extended family. But he simply said, "You're lucky.' This is what I'm learning ... so much comes down to the luck of the individual variables for each person. I hope so much that you can find some means of relief. Would it help to get another opinion from a different physio? And does the surgeon who performed the operation have any ideas about what's going on? Time helps enormously, too. You're only 3 weeks out from major surgery. Warmest best wishes coming to you.
