Tamoxifen and Periods

Hi just wondering if it is normal for periods to return? I AM 46 I had chemo last April and my periods stopped, I started tamoxifen in August , 2 days ago I started bleeding I assume it is my period returning after 9 months even though I was told the chemo would put me into menopause, I was getting hot flashes etc too..just seeing if anyone had a simular experience, am I normal?

    @red1 My surgeon told me that the tamoxifen still does what it’s meant to do. The good part about my ovaries switching back on is that the hot flushes have gone away.

    Thanks @Giovanna_BCNA and @Sydneygal I spoke to my nurse and they are going to keep tabs on me..I was pretty well told I would be in menopause and had resided myself to that..I guess sometimes it doesn't happen like that..hopefully the tamoxifen is still doing what it needs too.

    Hi @red1. I’m 41 and ended up getting my period back while on tamoxifen 8.5 months after I finished chemo. My surgeon had told me that I had a 50/50 chance of getting it back after chemo.

    If I understand correctly you have been on tamoxifen for nearly 6 months?   There can be some abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge with tamoxifen, it would be advisable to speak your BCN if you have one or your medical team to keep them informed.  It may also be helpful to keep a journal of some of the symptoms that you are experiencing.  All the best
