Sore throat

Hello, I have had a hysterectomy in December and I am on anastrazole. I was wondering if anyone else going through chemo has had some issues with a feeling of a thickness when swallowing? It’s not sore at all just really uncomfy!
Thanks x
  • Yep I had difficulty swallowing.  In the end had to eat soft / mashed foods until chemo finished.
    Pasta, risotto, soup, yoghurt, eggs

Also a gargle or pain killer before meal times.

    Have you ruled out thrush?

    Good luck
    Caz x
  • Hi @Mic80
i had chemo and a lot of effects with it, some were not even documented but did not have issues with my throat.  I did have a persistent cough which went away after chemo.  With every new side effect I did check with the chemo nurses.  I was also given a 24/hour number where I could speak to the oncologist available at the time.  Maybe call the nurses to get some advice.  Best wishes with your treatment.
  • Hi @Mic80,

I have not had this side effect from chemo although swelling can occur with allergic reactions. I don't know how long you have been finished chemo but sounds like it might be awhile ago. If not check with oncologist. If you have only just started the anastrazole maybe also check with your DR.

About 18 years ago I had a tracheotomy (it's a hole in your neck you breathe in and out from) for a super bug that cut of my airway. I had that tracheotomy for 5 weeks and was only fed via a tube down my nose to my stomach.

Once I recovered and the tracheotomy tube was removed my throat seemed smaller and it was harder to swallow. It still is on occasion for me.  As a result I eat smaller mouthfuls of food and chew my food really really ell before swallowing. Other than that chop everything into smaller pieces and go for foods with sauces to help swallowing.

  • So Sorry you are having discomfort, @Mic80 ... have you tried a honey and hot lemon juice drink? If it is mucous, that could cut it up.

i hope someone who has had chemo will jump on soon with suggestions.  Xx

    take care xx
