Soar against the wind....

From today's FB blog

Day 7 - after round 2

Woke to the sound of rain! How refreshing...after being stuck indoors pretty much for the last two weeks in the air conditioning, it's great to open up the house and get some fresh air.

Rusty also thinks it's great! He's been out running around in it and is now soaked! unsure emoticon He's the first dog we have ever owned that isn't worried by the rain or thunder for that matter! I've attempted to dry and brush him, I can manage a few strokes of the brush and then I'm tired....so annoying! by the end of the day he should be brushed! LOL!

Fatigue is still the enemy, my limbs feel as if they are filled with sand, so I shuffle around trying to get things done ever so slowly. Ironic; Having all of your good cells destroyed by chemicals that can save your life, TAKES your life away for a time. I hope I get some energy back by Thursday, I've booked in Tai Chi at the Wellness Centre!

My taste buds have also gone awol. I am not terribly hungry through the day, so i pick and snack on crackers, crisps or toast, but do get quite hungry at dinner time. I reluctantly ate pasta last night and didn't enjoy it at all, it was like eating paper with piles of clag glue on it, but it filled the hole in my tummy and at least the metallic taste seems to have disappeared for now.. Not much nausea to report except on first waking, but breakfast takes care of that.

I'm feeling better head space wise today, I've dragged myself up and out of that hole that was trying to swallow me. I do feel guilty after I've had a rant, the last thing I want to do is drag everyone down with me, but I need to get it out! So thanks for being there and thanks for listening.......

Today, I'll just sit quietly on the edge of that hole and catch my breath....readying myself for tomorrow.

Enjoy the cooler weather and stay dry!

  • Eeeew grooosss, hahaha! Well of all the side effects to get at least that one doesn't have you passing out or stuck in bed! ...Still. Gross. I wonder if gum would help or something.

  • I second the recommendation of fruit tingles. They really saved my taste buds. Glad some things are better today and no doubt they will be better tomorrow as well.

    Take care, Nadine

  • Keep forgetting about the fruit tingles! I do brush my tongue anyway... It doesn't help much... Hopefully my taste gets back to normal soon...

cant believe you're already at your last chemo! I've got 4 to go ?? can't come quick enough!

    Hugs to you Brenda xx

  • Get some lifesaver fruit tingles. It was the only thing this time that partially brought back some taste to my mouth. After a few hours it was all numb again so I would have another one. Repeat for a few days. It does seem to help. Also very carefully brush your tongue. It also helps return things to normal a lot quicker. Its still a crap time though. Glad I only have to face it one more time.

  • The mouth thing is 'slimy' I thought I had thrush (thank his it's not)  but it's apparently a side effectt from the chemo....

Thanks for your support its much appreciated

    xx

  • I remember you saying that! Garbage water bananas. Uck uck uck I drew a picture of melting bananas right after seeing it. I freaking love bananas. I hope apples stay good. Gotta have my fruit man.

Is the mouth yuck from dryness or is it more like - you know that thing you get when your mouth is all confused after too many salt and vinegar chips and it's still watery but dry? Hahaha never mind.

I'm really happy to hear you're not feeling so down today. <3 If you're feeling ranty and don't want to blog it but do want someone to listen, my inbox is barren and I'm really into reading. ;)

  • The worst thing has been a banana after first round...its literally tasted like "that smell from the rubbish bin"! then the pasta...I married to an Italian so it's a staple in our home!

I have found most things have a peculiar taste at this stage of treatment..some are just more tolerable... i find that the texture of the food is important too...my mouth is feeling really yuck despite using mouthwash etc it's like it has been burned and has gone all rough....the good news is your taste does return, just in time for the next round!

    soldier on!

  • Hahaha That description of pasta! Oh no!

What are you finding tastes/tasted the worst of everyday things? Or the best! Does anything stay the same?
