Post op

Had my op last Monday. Removed lump and node and all was going well until yesterday. Getting sharp pain across top of breast when i try to raise my arm, feels like its more in the muscle then the actual incision.  Had great movement in my arm but now i cant raise it above shoulder height, its like the muscle has tightened up. Have tried cold and hot packs with limited effect.  Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced similar? There's no sign of infection.

  • Definitely a visit to the drs. Good that you have a follow-up appointment. Mine is also getting worse. The anesthesia and nerve block all wore off today. Feel quite off kilter. Referred nerve pain. Some swelling and bruises showing. Also getting my feeling back in thhe arm. Burning sensations galore. Glad you are seeing the doctor tomorrow. Good luck and fingers crossed. Xxxx Shaza
  • Definitely worth a visit to the doctor. Mine is just getting worse too. The nerve block and anesthesia finally wore off. I can feel and see the bruising now. I'm also getting the feeling back in the armpit and shoulder. The drains are already making me irritable. Just breathing deeply. I keep forgetting to do that. Important to keep sane. Good luck Lynelle with the follow up...cheers, Shaza
  • Hi Chris

Is feeling a little better today. Have really slowed down and rested. Hope I  haven't busted anything on the inside. Will see what doc says tomorrow. Lynelle.

  • Sorry Lynelle about half message. Still trying to get use to this new format and I can't find how to edit, and I sent it accidently. I too think your pain could be nerve pain, or even referred pain. The node removal is really painful, and if you have been able to lift your arm, you have been doing well. I do remember how the tip of my drain sat on a nerve and how painful that was. Your Dr appointment tomorrow should shed some light on it. Just rest it till you see your Dr, and it might even be gone by then.
  • Hi Lynelle, Not sure what your pain could be, so maybe a phone call to your Dr tomorrow might be advisable. You might have pulled a muscle, but you seem to have been moving around a fair bit since you recent surgery,

  • Hi Shaza

No drain, they removed it before I left hospital. Think ur right though, feels like nerve pain to me. Think i may have strained muscle across the top of the breast. They told me I could drive by the weekend but I think that's how I did it. Follow up appointment tomorrow so will hopefully get some answers, just hope I haven't done any real damage. Lynelle.

  • Hi.I've just had my left breast mastectomy and axillary clearance On Fri.  Am doing better than I expected. I am also getting a sharp pain ,but the nurse told me that its mist likely the tip of the drain is touching my nerve at some angle. So im trying not to move in that direction. Although am not sure, do you still have drains in?  CommiseratIng with you,  Shaza.
