It's been a little while since I was on here but I'm just wanting to know if anyone post menopausal after chemo got another period once chemo had ended -1 year later! I'm on arimidex & my hormone levels have been checked so they're still all low - I'm having an ultrasound of my uterus next week & then seeing a gynecologist hopefully just for a clean out of whatever was left behind of my period while I'd had treatment. Has this ever happened to anyone else???

I'm so glad you posted this as I have been having similar issues. I was pre-menopausal before chemo & had my last period just before I started chemo in June 2012. After chemo I went on to Tamoxifen for the next 2.5yrs and just a few months ago was switched to Arimidex, as my blood tests were consistently showing I had reached menopause. However, recently I had a "mini-period" (aches & pains & brief show of blood), which I mentioned to my oncologist at my last checkup a couple of weeks ago and she immediately switched me back to Tamoxifen, did a further blood test review (still showing I'm menopausal) and got me to have a pelvic ultrasound (internal & external), both of which showed no abnormalities (thank God!). So, I see my onc again in a couple of weeks to talk over the results but think she wants me back on Tamoxifen for the time being. Not sure if there's any other plan yet!
I can understand your worry and concern. These continual reminders and fears test us all but hopefully all will be well with you too - as you say, maybe it's just a system clear out after all the chemo etc :-) Best wishes, Jane xx
Thanks Lyn no I hadn't gone into menopause before chemo so my doc did say it cld be my system clearing itself out from period that wldve been due during chemo - so hopefully it's just that!!
Hi Andir. Good that you've seen your GP and having an ultrasound. Were you menopausal pre chemo? How long since your last period? Questions your GP would have asked. I've certainly heard of women having a period close to a year after their last one, and having to restart the countdown. In terms of whilst on Arimedex, I'm not sure. I'm just starting out, halfway through pre surgery chemo. Try not to worry too much ( easy for me to say).
