Lifting nails after taxol

Hi Ladies,
After completeing 11 rounds of taxol my fingernails are lifting. Initally I was told to cut them back by my oncologist but a podiatrist (who can't legally cut fingernails) told me to bath them in hydrogen peroxide to dry out the nail beds and keep them dry to avoid bacteria and fungus infections. After 2 weeks I am finding this very hard to do having to wear gloves when preparing food, doing dishes and many other mum tasks. I accidently get them wet daily, cant go to aqua aerobics and the pain is wearing me down. Anyone else had these issues and got any hints.
Thanks Kirsty
  • I had taxol, back in sept/oct/nov 20 and had nail, issues . Must admit it just took time for nails to either fall off or regrow . Toe nails ok now but thanks to,further regime of kadcycla/TDM-1 fingernails now split easily although haven’t lifted . The numbness in my feet (peripheral, neuropathy) lead to oncologist reducing last four doses of taxcel down to 50% . Almost 12 months later my toes still numb , but not painful. It will, vary from person to,person I guess
  • Let us know how you are going with it. Hoping it improves for you. I had toe pain at night after 10 taxol. I had some numbness too on my toes and balls of me feet. I lost a couple of toe nails and the others aren't great. However the pain and numbness has lessened over. Good luck with it.
  • Thanks Cath,
Just taking panadol and that covers it well (until I knock the ends). Can't sit still, trying to stay active before radio tirdness kicks in! I will try my Breast care nurse. I fear this is going to be a long side effect and Im not known for my patience! :)
  • Hi @Kirsty48

Sorry you are experiencing this pain and discomfort. If i was going through that I would call the oncologist to talk to them about it.  You could call a breast care nurse if you have one.  Are you taking anything for pain?
