Hormone Blockers

Do all Hormone Blockers stop libido?
  • Thank you so much, you have given me hope  :)
  • Hi @Cora, I am on Letrozole and my libido is ok. I am 60 yrs old and have been married for 10 yrs. My husband and I have been together for 13yrs. I can understand in a new relationship you would have some concerns but if your partner is supportive then no matter what you go through they will deal with it. If they aren't supportive then they will never be. I think at this point just stay in the present moment snd don't get too far ahead of yourself. The main thing for you at the moment is to put yourself first.
  • Thanks heaps for this. I'm troubled that I'll lose my libido only 8 months into an active lifestyle.
  • Yep, I have been on Letrozole for over nine years, finish next May, hooray! I have had no joint or bone aches, flushes or anything of that sort but it’s given my bone density a bit of a thumping - always good to get that checked at the start, mine was excellent so I will see out ten years. My bone density is now much closer to ‘average for age’ so my excellent start was money in the bank in a sense. Some vaginal and libido issues yes, but I’m 77 in a week so it’s compounded by age to some unknown extent! Not everything is caused by treatment!
  • Makes sense, were you on any of these blockers?
  • I think that varies a lot on the type, the age of the recipient and that good old constant of cancer treatment, bad luck. Lots of people don’t have a problem, some have a minor one and can alleviate it, some have serious problems. Like other side effects, the only really effective test is to try the treatment and see what happens. Talk to your oncologist about options. Remember that what happens to
other people doesn’t necessarily happen to you, so fearing an outcome you may never have isn’t the best course of action. Best wishes.
