Hair loss

hi everyone

my hair on my head has now started coming out in clumps so I took myself off to my hubbys barber for a short back and sides. I don't look to bad almost bald and the shock hasn't been as bad as I though but now I have the eyebrows and lashes to contend with. I am so frightened to touch them for fear of hairs coming away in my hands so if anyone has any info to help me, it would mean so much. Can you wear false lashes if you lose them all.

Thanks for taking the time to read this as I am getting alittle lost on this hideous journey xxx

  • Hi, my eyebrows thinned gradually- a few sparse hairs that don't resemble eyebrows left at the end of my six months of chemo.  Some little stubby eyelashes left.  I have tried to apply false eyelashes, not too successfully :( It was a bit fiddly and i found the glue irritating to my eyelids.  I would try again if i had a special occasion but wouldn't recommend regular application.  I learnt how to fill in/ draw on eyebrows at the Look Good Feel Better workshop.  Fun afternoon and came home with gorgeous makeup provided free.  Found some great tutorials on you tube on how fill in/ draw on eyebrows and how to apply false lashes.  I liked the Chemo Chicks ones.  Really does make me feel better to put on the eyebrows to face the world.

Be kind to yourself, take this day by day.

  • Mine was coming out in handfuls day 14 after my first chemo, so I had a number 1 clip. Now 4&1/2 months after last chemo, I have a good covering of just over a cm length. My eyebrows are still a little sparser than before, but they were very thick. As Rowdy said, it comes back in all the places you wish it would stay away!

    Take care, Lyn

  • Hi it is a terrible shock to have your hair fall out. My husband was picking hair off me all the time. I went and had it all cut off because it was driving me nuts. I was surprised how quickly I adjusted to not having hair. The positive was didn't have to shave my legs. Unfortunately it grows back where you don't want it to. My hair grew back really curley on the top but has now settled.

Hideous journey I like that mine was always the shitty trip, take care and be kind to yourself and rest while you can xx

  • Louisa I had really think curly hair and started coming out after 1st chemo... after my hair thinned out so much I cut it short but there were bald patches here and there and opted and went for no. 2... I look like Sinead O'Connor.  Anyway 4 chemos later this morning I noticed my bald patches are getting hair, yeahhhhhh!!!! As for eyebrows and eye lashes  I have not touched them but they have thinned out i'm leaving them as they are.

Answer is yes you can wear false eyelashes and they even have eyebrow wigs if you loose yours completely.

    Good luck!!

  • Hi Louisa...

I am yet to experience the full hair loss thing as I've only just started treatment, but i am noticing my hair is coming out more than before after round 1........as far as eyelashes go ..not sure that the glue would be nice on sensitive skin....have you heard about the look good feel better workshops? I've heard they're excellent and may offer you tips and hints! I will be doing one when the time comes....

    good luck with everything..
