Good bye Eyebrows and Lashes

Hello again my BC sistas ! ... long time no talk.

My last round of chemo was on 8th Dec 2014 .... and about 6 weeks after that (mid January), my eyebrows started thinning  to the point of now resembling the brows of a serial-plucker. My eyelashes have also fallen out ... none on the bottom and only very fine stubs on the top - but not enough to hold massacra. Arrrggghhhh !

So, having read through some previous posts, I see that this is not uncommon ie. for us to lose our brows and lashes weeks/months after finishing our chemo.

My question is :- other than eyebrow pencils and eyeliner, can anyone suggest any lotion or potion that might encourage my brows and lashes to grow back faster ?

IIt's worth noting that I made a deal with the "Hair Gods" ... told them they could keep the hair that was once on my head (see photo of my curly mass)  since I have found being bald quite liberating - so long as they returned by eye brows and lashes.  Will keep you posted on the outcome.

P.S. the hair on my head is growing back steadily, a couple of bald patches but they are filling in quite well.

  • Hi all

I have been using a product called Christian eyebrows. It is a little compact powder with a double ended brush and three stencils - thin, natural or thick. They come in various colours.  I purchased mine from my local Ella Bache salon but you can buy them online. There is a video you can watch to see how to do it.

I never leave the house without them and always have perfect eyebrows!

  • Hi I too lost my eyebrows and eyelashes about 3 weeks after finishing chemo. I didn't lose all of them. I had a few fine hairs which was great as it gave me a line to follow when I drew them in. I just used a fine angled make up brush and eyeshadow. I didn't realise I'd lost my eyelashes til I tried to put mascara on and nearly took my eye out with the wand! Again I didn't lose all of them - had about a dozen on each side. Good news is they have started to grow back abt 10 days ago. Eyebrows first, then lashes. And they are growing so rapidly. Might end up like John Howard if I'm not careful. I think my eyelashes are thicker too but they're still a bit stumpy at the moment. I also used eyeliner to give some definition to my eyes. As for my hair, mine grew back during chemo. It fell out 2 weeks after first chemo. I had 4 cycle of AC. Then I had weekly taxol and it started growing back. Freaked me out as I thought it meant the chemo wasn't working on me but dr said not so. I did use a hair oil on my head everyday while on chemo though. My hairdresser makes it and it has organic products only in it. I rubbed it into my eyebrows once or twice but I doubt that made a difference. Keep us posted!
  • I found false eyelashes too hard despite lessons from my daughter but eyeliner was my saviour. Gives the impression there is something there. For eyebrows I used a good lash pencil and found some brow powder and brush on the bald girls do lunch site. Like Robyn, my Eyebrows have not recovered that well but my eyelashes have come back better than before. Go figure.
  • I finished chemo at the end of Sept. '14...the same thing happened to me some weeks after finishing..my eyebrows & lashes fell out. It is now Feb. and my eyelashes are growing back, but the eyebrows are still very sparse. I haven't come across anything to promote hair growth...I think we are all unique and it will happen in time. ( I hope so). My hair is growing back slowly also...am hoping for nice thick curly hair.!!!!Cheers. Chris.
  • Before BC my hair was brown and quite thin and fine. Now it is white/ grey and wavy and thick!! It's one good thing to come out of having BC:):) Hope you are well RosannaxxxRobyn
  • Robyn, curious about your hair thick ?  are u usually thick before diagonised?  Or did u do something on it?  The Tamoxifen will cause thinner hair, does that affect you?

  • You can buy very good stick on eyebrows I have discovered.  I have them in the bathroom cabinet in case mine go.  I'm hoping they don't.  I also have false eyelashes but I can't get them on without my glasses and I can't get them on with my glasses.  Not sure how people do it.

I hope yours grow back quickly.  Enough is enough I recon.

  • In my case,my eyebrows fell out on day 14, after my first chemo, just before my hair.I never lost all my eyelashes.I am now 13 months past last chemo, and my hair has come back thick, and wavy.My eyebrows are another story though!!! They have hardly grown at all,and it is actually difficult to even see them! Oh well,if that's the worst thing that I am left with,I'm sure I don't mind at all:):) Cheers xxxRobyn
