Here Goes
Hello. My name is Jenny and I live on the NSW/Vic Border. I have gone to post in here a couple of times but backed out. Denial maybe?
On Wednesday I was officially given the diagnosis of BC. I have had a large lump for around a year but I have 26JJ sized breasts and the lump is down along where the bra wire sits. I put it down to thickening because of the bra wire. I recently started Lite N Easy and after loosing around 10kg I noticed that the lump was much larger than I thought. It has its own postcode ;p Its 5cm x 3cm x 2cm.
So I did the mammo and ultrasound and knew when I called for results, that the urgency by my GP to get me in to see her, that something was very wrong. That day I had bloods, CT scan and was booked in for biopsy. All along I was doing as much research as possible. Armed with knowledge I have always found it easier to deal with things. Must be part of the anxiety I have day in and out.
I met my surgeon on Wednesday who gave me the diagnosis. I was alone at the appointment and was in shock, none the less. I guess I was hoping it was just a mass that they just wanted to remove for safety sake. I do remember asking him what type of Cancer and I vaguely remember him saying Metastatic and that its very common. I am booked in for a lumpectomy and node removal on the 22nd. (Tuesday Week). I am then too do 5 weeks radiation.
I've got all of that in my head and ready to deal with. But now I am reading all of the paraphernalia and Metastatic means I have it in other places in my body? Do they know where? Does this mean I will probably have to do chemo after radiation?
I know I am overthinking all of this and should take it one day at a time. I work 3 days a week and also on partial DSP. Being at work keeps my mind off things. I am planning on taking vacation leave for the rest of the week after my lumpectomy. I am so grateful that my oldest of 2 (daughter) is able to travel up from Melbourne to bring me home from the surgery and stay with me for a couple of days.
Another questions. I had been using implannon rod to control my periods, over the years. The last one was put in around 2011 and is still in my arm somewhere. As I have very thick arms I cant feel it and haven't bothered about it. I believe that it has run out of the hormones anyway after all of this time. Is this something I should tell my surgeon about?
I have so many questions. When will I start radiation? Will someone contact me or do I contact them?
I met my Breast Care Nurse but she was heading on vacation to France the next day. I have the number of another one and I will phone her and make contact with her this week.
It's like my whole life is about the Cancer now. I am being strong in front of everyone else but these times at home alone I am terrified.
Sorry if this is all over the shop but that is how my head works. I have been treated and continue to be treated for Depression an Anxiety for close to 20 years and have only recently found a good balance. The Lite N Easy journey was me actually caring about myself. Some days I shake so much it looks like I am having a min seizure.
Usually I am upbeat and cheeky and able to find the lighter sign of things. But tonight I am low.
Any insights would be wonderful.

- kmakmMemberJenny that's fantastic news it's not in your lymph nodes and that your surgeon got clear margins. Hooray! Onwards to treatment. K xox
- Riki_BCNAMemberHi @TabooGal as you have highlighted there are many complex dimensions to a pathology report. You may find the the following BCNA fact sheet helpful to understanding some of the terms used

Wishing you all the best - TabooGalMember
Just got back from surgeons appointment. 1 week after surgery.
Have taken all of your wonderful advice, was taking notes and got copies of reports,
Tumour type. Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, solid type
Size 41mm x 39mm 37 mm with clear margins
Grade 3
Lymph nodes involved - negative
Stage. ( don't know how to read this and forgot to ask) (AJCC/UICC): I1A (pT2, pN0, Mx) Does anyone know what this means?
Ki-67 : Strong nuclear staining of 30% of tumour cells. (this is where he suspects I will need chemo)
HER2 IHC: Negative
HER2 DISH; Pending
Back to surgeon again next Wednesday to check wounds and results for HER2 DISH.
I have to have bone scan and heart scan before referral to oncologist.
All in all I feel good. You beautiful Ladies have helped me prepare mentally. Boob not as sore today. I didn't got to work today after spending 4 hours at work on Monday and ending up with huge pain just from book bouncing around walking around the office. Feel more normal today. Plan on spending whole day at work on Friday.
It feels good to know that they got the whole tumour and positive that the nodes were negative. Hopefully no more surgery!
I've already ordered 2 scarves for hair loss (yes my anxiety always has me preparing for the worst) and now the waiting game starts until I meet my oncologist.
It really makes a difference having copies of reports, even though I don't understand a lot of it, because I feel like I am included and have some control.
- kmakmMemberHang in there love. I hate anxiety, it feels absolutely dreadful. Take some deep breaths. Big bear hug, K xox
- arpieMemberOh dear ..... I've been using a front loader for 20 years now ..... SO much easier - specially if you are 'height challenged' like me - a bit of a short arse! LOL If/when you replace your washer - check them out. ;)
It was a gorgeous day here as well. A little cool later on - but glorious for the rest of it!!
All the best for your results on Wed, @TabooGal .... it is spooky, this 'nowhere time' just now - but all going well, all will be well! Try not to 2nd guess it, hard tho it is ..... I had to wait longer for my Her2 results (which were luckily negative.) So don't be surprised if it may not be ready by Wed.
Take care, thinking of you xx - TabooGalMember@Giovanna_BCNA Thank you so much for that
My appointment is Wed which is only 8 days post surgery. I had an implanon rod removed at the same time so I imagine he is getting me in early to remove stitches. My BCN promised she would attend appointment with me. My anxiety is so high at the moment that I find myself trembling like a washing machine on the spin cycle. ;-p I will definately ask for copies of reports. Xxx - Giovanna_BCNAMemberHello @TabooGal
Good to hear that you are recovering post your surgery. I second all the great advice that our members have provided, its ok to have a down day, the 'tears' just need to flow sometimes. Hoping that you have good pathology results this coming week. I have attached our Fact sheet which will help in understanding your pathology results. You can ask for a copy of the report and its a good idea to take someone with you to the appointment. All the best

- TabooGalMember@arpie @kmakm learning to pick things up with my toes or just walking over them. My washing machine is very deep and on a normal day I had to flop a boob inside at an angle to reach down the bottom. Have located some long bbq tongs so hopefully that will help or the sox and undies will have to stay there! Times like this I wish I had go go gadget arms! I did manage to go for a short drive to get supplies today. Wasn't going to let an almost flat battery beat me so when it finally kicked over the neighbour's thought I was going to drive through the back fence I was revving so hard. Was a beautiful sunny day so when I finally got out of bed I sat out back for a bit and did some watering. Tomorrow I might just go drive the car through the carwash. Oh what an adventurous life I lead lol
- kmakmMemberI was a boob clutcher too! Especially unloading the dishwasher!! Lots of tears as well. As @arpie says, cleansing. Let them flow.
Good luck with your patholgy. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Your daughter sounds like an absolute treasure, like mine :) K xox
