Veoza for hot flushes

Hi, my GP gave me a call last week suggesting this new medication Veoza for my hot flushes. It was only approved by the TGA in February this year. It’s apparently safe for hormone positive breast cancer patients. Given we can’t take hormone replacement therapy it sounds like an interesting option. After 4 years of suffering hot flushes & night sweats I think I’m prepared to give it a try. Has anyone else had any experience with this very new drug yet?

  • Thanks for your response Sarah. Hot flushes can certainly disrupt our lives! A few more weeks on Veoza may make a difference. Let us know. Caffeine often does bring on a mild hot flush with me but hard to give up coffee! I do limit my coffee in late afternoon and evenings with the aim of a better night’s sleep.

  • I’ve been on Veoza for about 3 weeks now for hot flushes caused by chemo- it’s certainly taken the edge off hot flushes but not stopped them all together. We are going to give it another few weeks before trying something else. Hot flushes are really messing with my sleep so desperately trying to find a solution too! Someone else mentioned interactions with caffeine so that could be my problem?

  • Good afternoon HappySoul. I started on Veoza three weeks ago, after having to stop Estradoil at the end of the year, due to being diagnosed with DCIS. It isn’t on the PBS scheme and costs $81 for one month. But I got $56 back from private health. It worked immediately - the same day. i’ve stopped it this week as I had abdominal pain, which is a side effect. However I had upper gastric surgery in January, so it may be unrelated. I’ve just had my breast surgery two days ago, so will wait to heal before trying it again. In the meantime, the hot flushes and night sweats are back with a vengeance! My breast surgeon said she’s been prescribing it successfully to her patients, with good results.

  • HappySoul  I'd really be interested to know how you're going on Veoza. I'm on Letrozole and Verzenio.  The hot flushes persist!

  • Thanks, that sounds really interesting. I have had problems with regulating my body temperature for years following menopause. I'll have to check with my oncologist as the medicine information says it may not be suitable for people who currently have or have previously had breast cancer. I do hope it can be used!
  • @HappySoul Sounds wonderful. I will check with my GP and/or Onco. Thank you
  • @HappySoul I hope it works for you from what I’ve read you shouldn’t drink coffee when on it. I’m a big coffee drinker also those energy drink are full of caffeine
Double check the drug interactions with your treating Dr to make sure your not on any of them.
I have to let my GP on Medical Oncologist know what pills and potions im swallowing Including vitamins etc.
let us know how you go.
