Treatment Reaction after herceptin and perjeta

Anyone developed welts/rash like marks after treatment with herceptin and perjeta? I have itchy, red blotches over my chest, underarm and back which are showing no signs of going away. Initially, I thought they were insect/mosquito bites but, on reflection, think it's unlikely the suckers could have got through a thermal top and woollen jumper. The welts appeared a day after IV treatment with the drugs, which I've been on for 18 months without this kind of reaction. We're heading for the Flinders Ranges and a long way from my GP or oncologist and I don't want to alarm the old man by trying to find medical treatment if it's not necessary. Any advice would be appreciated.
  • And the diagnosis is ... shingles. The GP says it's not treatment related but can be brought on by stress, low immunity & fatigue among others. Of course the disease and the treatment wouldn't bring on any of that!
  • You could ring and speak with oncology team as they need to know before next treatment. It sounds likes hives which is an allergic reaction. Each treatment from now could result in increase symptoms and a premed prior treatment in future may well be necessary.
If you develop a cough, swallowing difficulties or facial swelling please or the rash spreads go to tbe ED department at local hospital.
  • Best to have it checked out by your Doc but I did have a rash on my chest back in June (finished Herceptin in Jan) and saw my surgeon who thought it might have been Urticaria (hives) and it did go away with antihistamines. I now have another type of welty non itchy rash on my good boob which I showed my surgeon at my annual mammo last week and he said its nothing to worry about but of course I still am!!! Good luck, hope it goes away soon, and have a great time away !
