To Ovary or not Ovary that is the question

So little time so many decisions and options....turns out this little lump was a little bit nastier than expected and hit the grade 3 but hadn't spread to the lymphs. Still she was up there in the hormones (something our home is use to given the 3 girls that reside there). I ended up with a lumpectomy and then a second round to ensure the clear margins...my darling husband now calls me Cadbury....Glass & a half. So after doing a little light reading I've come across the option to pull out the old ovaries...well I won't be needing them anymore. I'm just wondering who else might have considered this option or had it done and was it of benefit. I Should find out shortly about plan of attack with the treatment, but at this stage I'm getting hit with 6 rounds of chemo (would prefer 6 rounds with Mike Tyson), 3 weeks radio and then everyones favourite...hormone treatment for a few years. None of this is really worrying me...now, but just want to explore all options to best prevent this little bugger from coming back. I've read that it will bring on menopause, but won't the chemo and hormone treatment do this anyway? Anyway would love to hear your thoughts....Cheers Sal

  • Hi Sally. I'm thinking about this option too. I haven't looked into it or asked about it yet. I've had kids and don't want any more, and I want to do everything I can to be around for as long as I can for them. The only thing I think I'll have a problem with is my age and the gyno not wanting to take them out because I'm only 35. But I'm hoping that the gyno that I saw with my kids will be ok and do it. I'm actully thinking of getting all my lady bits out, ovaries, tubes and utrus. My first 4 rounds of chemo didn't stop my periods but I think the change of chemo that I started last week may have stopped them now. Goodluck with starting your chemo. I'd love to know what you find out about the ovaries being removed. Vanessa x
