Tamoxifen

I have been taking Tamoxifen since October 15 and in the past week I have developed a bad taste in my mouth.  i have read from searches that tamoxifen can cause this.  Has anyone else experienced this?  and if so what did you do to get rid of it.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !!

  • Hey Jane

I took tamoxifen for just over a year and recently swapped over to arimidex.

Only side effect  i experienced was the hot flushes.

I would suggest mentioning it to your oncologist next visit and see what they suggest

  • Every little bit helps. Try getting the refrigerated probiotic drink and hold it in your mouth for a few seconds before swallowing. It makes my mouth feel better when its getting pretty darned ordinary.

  • Hi Jane

I take Tamoxifen daily and chose to take it late in the day, mainly because the Pharmacist had suggested that it may make me feel queasy.  If I get queasy I have a glass of wards saline (purchase from supermarket) as that seems to help the tummy and cleanse the palette.

We all react differently to medications and I note that someone else has suggested changing the time of day that you take Tamoxifen to minimise the discomfort to your everyday life.

Good luck with your treatment and take care

  • Hi Jane

I haven't started that yet, but have been advised by others that have been through it to stock up on fruit tingles! Apparently they work a treat!

  • Hi Jane,

I started Tamoxifen in mid December. The first few days I had a bad taste in my mouth and slight queasiness but it's subsided. I'm due to see my oncologist tomorrow for follow up. I don't have any suggestions, except maybe take the pill in the evening so the bad taste doesn't impact your day as much hopefully. Another maybe to try a different brand, as from what I've heard, effects to different brands of tamoxifen are so individual. All the best,

    Karen xx
