Hi Suz, I am really sorry that you are suffering so much on tamoxifen. It just sucks that something that helps keep us alive can make life so unpleasant. I haven't started it yet. I'm due to go on it in about 6 weeks when I finish RT so I've been reading about side effects and so on. Just wondering whether you've come across much research on I3C which has been mentioned by a couple of women here. It is a substance found in cruciferous veg like broccoli, kale and cauliflower. I have just started taking a small dose myself. (My oncologist hadn't heard of it and said it was up to me if I wanted to take it.)
I've read some research - uni of Arizona has just started a study testing it in conjuncition with tamoxifen. They think the two could work better than tamoxifen alone. But even on its own I3C shows promise of preventing breast cancer recurrance. It's by no means proven yet but my thoughts are that if tamoxifen gets too unbearable I will stop it and increase my dose of I3C and concentrate (even harder) on eating very healthily, exercising etc.
I certainly don't want to encourage you to stop taking a potentially life saving medication but if you do stop I'm just suggesting that you might like to find out some more about I3C as it may provide some protection from the cancer recurring. Good luck Suz.
Janet.
