Oncol. recommending switch from Tamoxifen to Zoladex/Aromisin

Appointments are all set for a bone density scan, bloods and info session to make the switch. My oncol has suggested this combo has a slightly better outlook than tamoxifen. Bonus sweetner... may only need 5 years instead of 10! Problem is, like with every new treatment suggestion, I'm anxious about side-effects. I've just learned to live with my Tamoxifen/Palbociclib combo and now they want to up the ante AGAIN! I'm already achy, tired, heavier than I'd like, unfit, unable to hold a line of thought, moody, intollerant, zero interest in sex, hot and sweaty.

Anyone switched from Tamoxifen to Zoladex/AI combo? What was your experience? How much worse can the menopause symptoms get? Any thoughts?

  • We've got to do what we've got to do. Much as we dislike it. The gift that keeps on giving. Humph.
  • I am 38 and on that combo at the moment. Chemo put me into menopause so can’t say symptoms are any different or worse?! have had 2 rounds of the injection plus tablets so far. Am experiencing all the shit side effects you have mentioned!! However hot flushes seem to be less frequent. I am booked in to get my ovaries out at the end of March because am not comfortable having to have an injection to shut down my ovaries. Doesn’t seem right to me and god knows what effects it will have on my body in the long run so would much rather get the ovaries removed. Good luck! X
