New to tamoxifen

Hi my name is Jackie and I have a question about the side effects from taking tamoxifen.

I have been on tamoxifen for about 6 weeks and I have experienced a little nausea and indigestion, both of which are bearable and thankfully no hot flushes yet.  My periods have also stopped and I wondered if this is normal for the tablets to take effect this quickly (6 weeks) or should I be thinking about contacting my GP for a pregnancy test?!?

Are there any other members that have experienced this happening to them too and this quickly?

Thanks ;-)

  • Hi I am also on Tamoxifen and I do not have my periods now either. However I think it was due to the chemo because they stopped a couple of months before I started taking it. Good luck ??

  • Hey Jackie

let us know how you going. Hugs to you sweetheart ??????????????

  • Thank you for replying, it is nice to just talk to someone who is going through a similar thing.

Luckily for me, so far, I have had no hot flushes only a little bit of nausea and indigestion which seems to have calmed down.

I did chat to my GP and he just brushed it aside and said it was the tablets, he only took my blood pressure!  So I still have this niggling little voice saying how do you really know!! I am going to get a home test and hopefully that will ease my concern a little.  I do have an oncologist appointment in 2 weeks so I will have a good long chat to him then.

    Take care and thanks again

  • Wow you really have been through it all!

Thanks for taking the time to reply I just seem to be getting mixed advice from all medical people and are not sure which doctor to trust.  I do have an appointment with my oncologist in 2 weeks time but don't really want to wait another 2 weeks, just in case.  I think I will do a home test just to put my mind at rest! (And my husband!!)

    Take care

  • Tamoxifen didn't stop my periods.  Side effect of Tamoxifen for me is the occasional hot flashes.

We're all different in how it affects us so I suggest you have a chat with your GP, especially if you think pregnancy is a reason!

    Good luck with your treatment

    Take care

  • Hi Jackie,

i was on tamoxifen for 5 years. The only side effect I had was hot flushes. I had a full hysterectomy the year after my first breast cancer eliminating ovarian/ uterine cancer in 2004. In 2013 I had bc again with a mastectomy this time in the same breast and now take Femera, same side effect - hot flushes. I don't know about the period side of things as I didn't have any of course but if you think you may be pregnant buy a home kit and do the test.  Ask questions and hopefully you'll be ok. Wishing you well xx
