Heart failure
i have been diagnosed with heart failure due to Herceptin. My effectionfraction is 15%. It was 65% prior to chemo.
Herceptin has now been stopped.
Does anyone know of any substitutes?
Hi Diane
This is Kathy from BCNA's Policy Team. I am sorry to hear that your Herceptin treatment has damaged your heart. This is one of the known side effects of Herceptin, although it isn't terribly common. Heart function often returns to normal once Herceptin is stopped.
Currently there are no alternative treatments for women with HER2-positive early breast cancer, however you may be able to resume Herceptin if you heart function improves after taking a break from it. Your medical oncologist will be able to talk to you about this.
Best wishes
Kathy
