Hands and feet still numb after chemo

Hello, I've been in remission now for almost one year after my last herceptin injection. My hands and feet are still giving me problems with numbness. Is it just me or does it eventually go away with time? Can anybody help with an over night cure. Thanks

  • Eunice,

try a hot water bottle also.  I couldnt sleep as my feel were feeling frozen, so the hot water bottle fixed that.  Then I would just push it out the end of the bed and sleep soundly.

  • Good morning Pam,

Hope it's not too off putting for you in hearing about my probs but I think everybody is different.  It's just so frustrating.  Trying to sleep with numb feet, being hot and having cold feet.  Getting up from lying or sitting and having to limp until it rights itself, blah blah blah.  I will try with the massaging and see how we go although I think I tried that in the earlier days.

    Thanks for your message

  • Hello Fiona,

Thanks for that.  I have stress balls and certainly will give it a go.  I hope I'm not putting you off in knowing that my treatment finished so long ago and I'm still having these probs but I'm going crazy with the constant numbness and just want it gone.  Will give something similar to marbles a go.

    Thanks for you message

  • Hi there, that isn't what I want to hear. 1 year later and it is still feeling numb. I initially had both my hands and feet, but now 2 months after finishing chemo I only have problems with my feet. Have also found it hurts my feet if I try to wear shoes without stockings or socks (except my slippers). I know that I put a lot of moisturiser on my hands and that may have helped. When I moisturise my feet I do get some relief. I don't know whether it is the moisturiser or the massaging - so try that and see how you go. Very weird feeling, so hope it doesn't last too much longer. Best of luck Pam. Xxxx

  • Hi I've bought some different textured balls from the cheap shop and roll them around in my hands and roll my feet over them to try and wake them up.  Also have a few stress balls to squeeze and a tray of my sons marbles that I move my feet over. I finished chemo about three months ago. I'm hoping that maybe it will help. All the best Fiona
