Going off Zoladex, staying on Tamoxifen

Hi,

I am on Zoladex and Tamoxifen and have been for 4+ years. Lots of side effects - insomina, fatigue, weight gain, hot and cold flashes, joint pain. I am going off the Zoladex (yippee!) and wondering if anyone can comment on their experience of going off Zoladex but staying on Tamoxifen - I am hoping my side effects reduce.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

  • Hi levett

I have definitely felt an increase in energy which has been bloody fantastic. I was exhausted all the time on both. The joint pain has dimiinished a little, still there but more manageable and hot flushes are still around byt maybe less of them. All in all, all symptoms seem to have lessened in severity. Good luck

  • Hi, was wondering if you could update me . I'm about to stop zoladex but remain on tamoxifen. .did your side effects diminish? Thanks
  • So true, I say to myself all the time that this treatment is so much easier to deal with than chemo or radiation. My mum went through that and it was terrible. So we soldier on with what we have to do and get through the best we can. :)
  • It's due to my staging and grade. I'm on a 10 year plan, not 5. Double both Tamoxifen and Zoladex (may change Tamoxifen to another one in the next few months but it will be 10 year sbefore I get off them, or it may extend past that.

Krill oil is good for the joint pain, what dose Tamoxifen are you on?

  • Hi Loz, I have just started both of these, I've been on Tamoxifen for 3 months and have just had my second Zolodex injection. My question to you is why have you been on Zolodex for so long? My onchologist has said two years but may remove my ovaries after 6 months and stop the Zolodex. I have started getting some of the side affects you mentioned and not looking forward to the rest. Hope coming off the Zolodex makes you feel better :)) Anne
