I start my chemo the day before you do and am frankly terrified. I got my plan before Christmas, but delayed the start until 9th Jan for various reasons. I think the waiting has made me more anxious though and given me more time to research all the nasty possible side effects. Although I went through surgery and radiation 11 years ago with my first bout of BC, this is my first time with chemo.
I have recovered really well from 4 lots of surgery over the last 3 months, helped I'm sure by maintaining a healthy diet and walking every day, but chemo seems like a whole new mountain to climb. I'm just hoping that walking daily and eating well will help, and that all the hats and scarves I have been accumulating will enable me to cope with losing my long hair.
What chemo are you having Joy? Mine is 3-weekly FEC for 3 cycles followed by 8 lots of weekly Taxol.
I hope you find the psychologist really useful. I saw one for a few sessions of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at the time of my first cancer treatment and found it invaluable. She really helped me to turn negative thoughts into positive ones - or at least recognise that the negative thoughts were not helping and there were ways to stop them dominating. I still use some of the things I learnt from her to help me cope now.
