Will it ever be behind me?

Well here I am post surgery, chemo and radiotherapy and happy to say I made it.

Reflectively the whole treatment process was not as bad as I had imagined.  Not to say it was easy but with the help of this site I was prepared.

I returned to work this week - 3 shifts a week, and have never experienced such fatigue.  But my co-workers have provided amazing support.

The return to work marked the return to some normality that was my pre BC life.  I have also thought about my work/life balance and now ensuring that I include time for me.

The aim now is to not allow the fear of BC returning impact on my enjoyment of christmas, family and life.

My next barage of tests will be May 2015 to mark 12 months since commencing treatment so from now til then will try to put BC behind me.  I keep telling myself theres nothing I can do til then but look after myself physically and mentally.

I acknowledge that I remain emotionally fragile, tears well up at times, fear re-emerges however I can now usually push the negativity aside and appreciate where I am.

With the help of all on this site, the numerous posts I read that answered many questions and prepared me for upcoming treatments, a big THANK YOU.

As this journey continues I know there will be hiccups along the way but I also know here is where I find the answers and amazing support.

Season Greetings to all,
Rita x

  • Great milestone to be back at work, trying to be normal again is a massive task, I still can't believe I can't do the things I used to without being exhausted, I suppose for us the lets get on with it ones, we will never settle for not trying to be normal and I thing it's that perserverence that is our best and bad trait. I'm still a stubborn bugger and it's 3 years in 2015 for me! Be kind to yourself if you can I think you deserve it. Adean xxxx

  • Give yourself time Rita:) On the 16 th of this month,I will be exactly 12 months past my last chemo, and it is really only the last 3 or 4 months that I feel that I am back to where I was, emotionally.I am on Tamoxifen, but I don't really get teary any more, like I did in the early days of post treatment.I don't know when it actually became better,so I think it's just a gradual thing. However all the things I had in the early days after treatment finished,I don't have now. These were.... Extreme tiredness, yucky nails( still not great though!! )aching knees, blurry eyesight. All these things just disappeared!!!! Have a great Christmas, and take comfort in the fact that you are doing all you can through healthy eating etc.to keep your body strong.Stay in touch on here also.Cheers xoxRobyn
  • Hi Rita good to see you are moving forward, I have read your post and relate to how you are feeling. Every day I think about this year and how crap it has been, but I am nearing the end of my treatment. I still have herceptin treatment  to finish next year and of course tomoxafan. My 12 month since diognised and first check will be in Feb,

For now I'm trying to concentrate on christmas and the new year, 2015 has to be better than this year. I'm still taking each day one at a time and not planning to far ahead, keep wellx
