Wigs

Hi Janice, I chose to wear a wig for the majority of my bald time. In the early period when it was hot , Feb and March this year, I alternated between wig, scarves and nothing, but as winter approached I found the wig very comfortable.I ended up with 3 wigs. The first one I purchased at The Individual Wig in Darlinghurst. It was OK, but not great. While in Melbourne I went to a shop on Swanston st called Creative Wigs, and I found the best wig for me. No one could ever tell, and being a whole sale place it cost me about $375 (approx). It was so good, that as it started to wear out, I replaced it by phone order with exactly the same wig, and now that my hair is regrowing, I take it to the hairdresser, and show the style and colour, and ask for the same. This was a synthetic wig, it fitted well, and looked very natural. Being synthetic meant that nothing other than a wash and shake was required. Human hair requires lots of styling, and they are expensive. The one thing that I enjoyed about wearing a wig was that my family were able to forget for a while that I had cancer if I looked well, and a good wig can help to achieve that. My 4 children are all in their 20's, but when my 22 year old daughter made that comment, I realised how much my cancer had affected them. Love Chris xx

I bought my wig online from the USA. It cost 450 here and 120 from America same brand / designer / colour everything! So if your wanting to buy a wig try a brand on at a wig shop get the details and google it.

Hi harmonious -- not sure if you've found our online services directory yet, but you can do a search for a wig library in your area.  Search page is here: http://www.bcna.org.au/ldirectory/listing.

The directory is still new, so there may not yet be anything listed in your area, but see how you go.  AND if you do find out some info, please add it in so we can keep expanding the content.  Most of the listings currently in there have been suggested by our members. :)

I bought mine at Wig Affair in the Piccadilly Arcade, it was $400, which I didn't think was too expensive considering I will be wearing it for at least 7 months. Mine is very light so I'm hoping it won't be too hot in summer. I have been wearing it since July and it is very comfortable.
