Hi
I am triple negative. I had chemo first. Then went on to have two breast conserving ops because they didn't get clear margins the first time. Yes the final decision is ours but because we really have no surgical or cancer research knowledge, we have to put our trust in the experts. My surgeon and breast care nurse favoured a lumpectomy as I am young and explained how they felt it was the best option for me. I am starting radiotherapy this week. I am a little disappointed with my breasts at the moment, only because I developed a bad infection two weeks after the second op. My surgeon had to drain all the fluid from my breast and now that the infection has gone, the affected breast sits about 5cm above the other and is much smaller and sitting right up near my armpit. I don't know how I got the infection and I never will. My surgeon said he will look at it after the radiation to see what he can do to make it look better. I am sticking with my original decision and not even contemplating a mastectomy unless it is necessary further down the track!! xx
