Who has to test for BRCA Gene

I had my treatment in 2017 for stage 2 idc at age 40,at time oncologists and surgeon said didn’t need testing for gene,recently I have seen gynaecologist to get a hysterscopy and curettage because of tamoxifen,he said because of young age he thinks I should be tested,so confusing, if I had the bracca gene it probably would have changed the treatment I chose
