I’m 27 and was told because I have no family history either side of breast or ovarian I didn’t qualify for public funding. I was referred initially purely due to my age. However because I had lobular opposed to ductal I qualified for another range of tests which happened to include BRCA .. I didn’t understand that process but anyways got tested for 5 genes, all negative.
It would have changed my treatment because if you come back BRCA you usually are recommended bilateral mastectomy so I would have had to schedule having the other one off fairly soon, plus when you approach 40 they usually recommend ovarian removal.
