Just out of curiosity who found their own lump?

I found a large lump in my right armpit, thought it was enlarged lymph nodes so mentioned it to the Dr on the next routine visit. Within 2 hrs I was having a mammogram & ultrasound, within a month I was having a bilateral mastectomy. Message here is not everything is picked up by a mammogram; even the surgeon couldn't feel the lumps in my left armpit [shown by ultrasound]. Please, everyone, look after your health; if you think there is something 'wrong' get it checked out !

I found large lump in right breast when getting dressed on 14/11/12. Was at my Doctor within the hour and having a biopsy within three hours. Turned out it was really 10 lumps plus the ones in my armpit. Largest 5cm smallest 1cm. Even the mamogram I had that day did not show the masses. I had been having mamograms since my mid 20's due to a strong family history and had had one only 12 months prior to my diagnosis. My message is get to know your breasts and even the slightest change is worth seeing your Doctor. Since then I commenced Chemo within 10 days of finding my lump and two months on have had 7 rounds of paclitaxel with 5 to go, plus EC Chemo, Mastectomy and radiation to look forward to.

I also found my lump in the shower one morning in April 2012, since then have had a mastectomy , 6 rounds of TAC, no radiation, but am now on tamoxifen for 5 to 10 years. Just glad that I found it when I did. Robyn

I found my lump and left it for a couple of months thinking it felt like a fibroadenoma that I have had removed twice before. The GP agreed and I went along for the usual scans and it turned out to be 2 x primary cancers. Two years earlier i had scans and biopsy for a third fibroadenoma which I decided to not have surgery on. The scans then did not show any cancer at that time. So two years was the time it took for the lump to be palpable and for it to show in ultra sound and mamo scans. My journey: 2 x lumpectomy, AC x 3 months, taxol x 3 months, hercepton x 12 months, then double mastectomy and reconstruction, tamoxifen x 5 years, possible removal of ovaries.......sounds horrible but typical but I'm luckier than many and look forward to complete recovery.

Hi I found a lump in my left breast a week ago its the size of a pea. My doctor felt it too and sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound. I felt humiliated when I was told nothing showed up. I also have itching burning sensatins where the lump is. I dont feel well, constant nausea, dizzy spells and general feeling of being unwell. I hate feeling like this and I know something is not right but Im not being taken seriuosly. I have an appointment Monday 15/12? 14. Im not going to let this go because my step mum had the same problem and she has just had a mastectomy for 2 types of breast cancer. I am scared witless at this moment.

Has anyone found a pea sized lump and it turned out to be cancer?

Thank goodness you followed your instincts.It's very scary to think we could have cancer and it's not picked up on mammogram and ultrasound.I've had breast cancer twice in the same breast 7 years apart.In hindsight I wish I'd had a mastectomy in the first place.I am so glad you have been spared radiation and chemo.Hope you continue to recover.
