I had a core biopsy, via ultrasound, done at BreastScreen Queensland, Rockhampton. 3 samples were taken. The procedure was explained to me and the staff were very supportive. I was told the local injection would sting, but it didn't. I felt a lot of pressure and the noise was like a nail gun. My lump was hard and the doctor had difficulty getting to the centre. She had to exert a lot of pressure, but got there eventually. The procedure wasn't painful. I was given small ice packs to use. I had a small bruise and slight tenderness around the entry site. I was also given a Fact Sheet with details on what to do if I experienced any post-procedure problems. I don't think that I would undergo a core biopsy for research.
