I had five core biopsies taken at Breastscreen ACT in 2011 after being called back for ultrasound after mammo. I was told I would have a local & the staff & Dr who did the biopsies couldn't have been more caring. I have quite a phobia about needles, let alone anything bigger than that !! I was not too bad untill I realised what it involved, but couldn't run away by then. I had 4 or 5 lovely nurses who held my arms still & rubbed & patted my leg to try & sooth me, especially when the first bang went off ( which they had forgotten to mention). They didn't rush me afterwards & gave me ice packs to take home & told me to expect some bruising. It was a bit tender but I don't recall taking any pain killers afterwards. I don't know if I would have it done for research it would probably depend on how it was approached & for what organisation/research.
