I had breast cancer for the first time in 2003 at the age of 35 and then again in 2010 at 42. I wish that I had had a double mastectomy at the time that I had my first cancer rather than just having the one side done....but I wasn't ready to make that decision at that time.
It is a really personal choice and you need to make sure that what you do is right for you!
My second mastectomy was a decision that I couldn't make for myself - it was needed and I didn't have a choice. The reconstructions that I have had made a huge difference to my self-esteem.
