What next?

Hi everyone, Well guess what..... my little trip to prepare for radiation to T7 rib turned into another massive saga.  Wasn't feeling the best 2 days before appointment with radiologist so made an appointment with my gp earlier same day as appointment with radiologist, as I was experiencing symptoms of diverticulitis but I also mention that I had a little pins and needle episode the previous evening, to the first three fingers on my left hand while disposing of rubbish to my outside bin.  It only lasted for a minute and I thought nothing of if as I didn't experience any other numbness, headache etc.  Gp focused on it straight away and sent me for a ct scan with and without contrast. Was lucky and able to to make appointment there and then with local radiologist., but unable to perform scan with contrast due to bad veins.  Result showed a small 1cm leison on my parietal lobe. Gp forwarded final report on to oncology radiologist who rang me while I continued travelling to appointment, and told me to fast as I was to have a MRI at 2.30pm. Final result was to admit me to Coffs hospital & fly me to John Hunter Hospital as an urgent case for op on brain.  Flew out to JH the  following afternoon.  Finally saw principal neurosurgeon and his entourage bedside, who explained op procedure etc and that they had discovered two more leisons....1 on left side frontal lobe and the other towards the midbrain area.  The 2nd was about the same size as the 1st and the 3rd was minute and obviously inoperable.  After much deliberation the neurosurgeon finally agreed to operate on both the lobes.  He was very conservative with what he was dealing with and didn't want to commit as presentation was different from the 1st to the 2nd.  So now I'm out the other side after the op, patiently waiting for pathology results which should take 2 days. To Arrange for trip back to Coffs to complete recovery.

So once again, where to from here? Continue with radiation to brain....rib and then chemo to body?  Who knows!

  • Oh Beery, this must have been an awful roller coaster experience for you.  I am so sorry you find yourself going through this on top of your BC diagnosis.  How good though that your GP responded quickly on your symptoms.  I've been having some needles and pins lately in my hands (on and off) and I haven't mentioned it to anyone.  I will now that I have read about your experience.  It is that little line between what is just side effects from our weary bodies recovering from chemo or rads, and what is more sinister.  How do we know?.  My sugeon told me not to freak out every time i feel something going on in my body.  But we can't ignore these things either.

Thank you for taking time out of this massive ordeal and during recovery to post on here.  I hope you recover quickly and that your treatment will go smoothly from here.  Best wishes x Rene
