We had chemo hanging over our head last Christmas, after having a lumpectomy and then a mastectomy within a couple of weeks of each other in , November 2009 . We didn't really enjoy Christmas or the New Year, but had it with family so that was nice. It took our minds of things a bit. I was diagnosed towards the end of October. There might be a support group in your area, if you ring the cancer council tomorrow. We were very numb, when I was diagnosed and needed time to process things. Hopefully the 23rd is still available for your op. If not is there anyone else that can do it.
