Well Hello!!!!
Nice to meet you all!!!
Thought I would take the time today to introduce myself rather than just read everyone's posts. My name is Cath and I have only recently been diagnosed. My mastectomy surger...
Hi Cath. Welcome to the site, and keep up the positive attitude.
I too am a new member - I'm a week and half post bilateral mastectomy, still in recovery and getting impatient. I've got some suggestions for you. Pj's a must of course - some friends took me shopping because they wanted to do something and I decided to just let them and we had so much fun, I even bought some fluffy bunny slippers! If anyone wants to help, maybe you could suggest that. Make sure they are button up tho - you will have to show your chest a few times and you can't really lift your arms too well.
My awesome amazing breast care nurse bought me a selection of bags to put my drains in, probably depends what hospital you are in whether you have a nurse, but it helps to be mobile with the drains in. Also, take lots of entertainment - trashy mags, books, whatever you enjoy doing while sitting/resting. Once all the monitors, etc were off me, I started walking up and down the corridors, even went down to the hospital coffee shop with some visitors in my fancy new PJ's! There's not much else, so don't overpack, just toiletries, and you won't even need much of those.
Good luck with the surgery - all will be great, just a small bump in the road!
Cheers, Donna
