Waterproof dressing
I spoke with my McGrath Breast Nurse (Terrie) yesterday who phoned to see how I was going after my operation. It's great to be able to discuss everything and anything with someone who truly understands, answers questions and who can give execellent advice and support when needed.
During our long chat (full of laughter) we discussed my waterproof dressing and she mentioned that if there was any sign of redness/blistering appearing under the dressing then I should remove and replace it.
Of course, after our discussion, I awoke this morning to find that I did have a reaction (I am allergic to almost all elastaplasts and dressings). So as suggested, I dashed to our local chemist, who recommended another dressing to replace the one that covered the area.
When I showed my husband the new dressing he was quite concerned about the swelling and redness around my wound so I immediately took some photos and shot them off via email to my McGrath nurse.
Within an hour she was on the phone again saying that the replacment dressing should also be removed because it looked as if I would also be sensative to it as well .
At her suggestion, I now have a guauze dressing tucked into my bra and she has asked me to send her a photo of my incision area tomorrow for her to see if my reaction has settled. She will also let my surgeon's office know what is happening (he is currently on vacation) so he is aware of the problem when he returns.
This is an absolutely amazing service and I truly appreciate having access to a McGrath Nurse.
What a wonderful legacy the McGrath Foundation has proved to be.
