Vision Deteriorating

Hi there everyone

I am reaching the end of my chemo treatment (1 more to go) and have noticed from early on that my eyesight has deteriorated quite quickly, especially for reading.  Have any of you experienced the same, and if so did it get better once the chemo was over.  I am trying to work out if I should go and see optometrist a few weeks after my last round or will it keep getting worse for a period of time and I should hold off for a while before getting new glasses (reading only).  I have 6 weeks of radiation (breast area only), and am assuming this won't have any effect on my eyesight.

Thanks for your help, Kari

  • Thanks Guys, think I will visit optometrist after a few weeks, see what difference there was from last time and maybe just opt for the magnifiers from the chemist.  Honestly, they seem to be just as good!!

  • Hi Kari yes me also I've noticed eyesight deteriorating I only wear reading glasses and have had 5 chemos thus far 11 to go with myself I wondered in the beginning if it was my AC out of it feeling and I've noticed its worst since losing my eyelashes I haven't any advice I thought I might have my eyes retested in a month or so good luck interesting how many of us had noticed this

  • Hi

I have been on various chemos for HER2 positive metastatic cancer for the last 3 years and I have had problems with my vision throughout. I did see an optometrist about 1/2 way through my taxol treatment and paid some serious money for "reading glasses" that I would also be able to use for TV watching and computer work as I was having trouble focusing on distance after reading. I found them to really not solve the problem on the bad days and I have since purchased a cheap pair of reading glasses from the chemist that work fine.

Perhaps you may want to wait until you are finished to see what happens.

    Best of luck

  • Oh great, something else to be aware of. I am needing new glasses too but I might now wait until after I have the op and chemo and then I can get new glasses. Something to look forward to in the finish at least. :)

  • Hey Kari! Like Emma,I had docetaxel, and I also had trouble with my vision, some days worse than others. One of the side effects of chemo can be 'dry eyes' which actually can mean you might produce more tears, but it's called dry eyes.!! Go figure that one!! I wear glasses, and I had my eyes checked straight after chemo. They were fine, and the blurriness and focusing problems just disappeared on their own.Maybe wait till the end of chemo, give it a few weeks, then get a checkup.Chemo can play havoc with our bodies in all sorts of ways. • Hi Kari,

I found during the second part of my chemo (docetaxel) that I had days where my eyes where really blurry.   I do wear glasses and now that I am a few weeks out of chemo my eyes are back to normal.  I will go to the optometrist soon but just wanted to wait a while after the chemo.  Emma Xx

  • Ooh. I'm glad you asked this question. I wear contacts and do have trouble focusing sometimes. Am not sure how much is dry eyes or because I spend all day lying in bed on the iPad. :)

looks like another appointment for me!

  • Hi Kari,

i finished treatment 5 months ago. My eyesight has deteriorated and I struggle to read without my glasses. Make an appointment with the optometrist and get it checked though just in case it is nothing to do with chemo. Karen xox

  • Hi Kari,

I wear glasses also and I have noticed my eyesight has deteriorated in a massive way I wear glasses for everything and I still have 9 weeks of chemo left and due to forgetfulness I lost my distance glasses so I have to wear my reading glasses now but I am going to get my eyes tested after chemo also as radio I have been told won't effect my vision and I want to get my license after treatment has finished just one of my goals.

sending you a cuddle and a smile Anita xx????????
