  • Hi robsue,

I can relate to aches, pains, discomfort in arms and shoulder blades and ribs, and lately tightness across chest and even achy down left arm, especially when walking up hill.

Recently, I had a heart echo and stress test, and they were ok. I was also thinking a pulled muscle, or reflux, or gastritis. Test for helicobactor was negative. I hate going back to doctors and checking things, but sometimes you need to.

Have been thinking what it is this time? I find it very stressful to have pain and discomfort. I like being active, but treatments and surgery has made me have to find new ways to be active and relieve stress. I get fatigued more easily and have much less stamina also. Still I have to keep trying to maintain strength.

Water therapy helps me a lot, to relief stress, reduce pain, help with toning and relaxation, also mood. I also do some walking, though the pain across chest/ ribs and down left arm is something new at the moment, so not walking  very much lately.

I am having another laser in a few weeks at the Tasmanian Lymphoedema Centre (TLC)  at St Mary's hospital  in Tasmania on the East Coast ) I hope it helps things settle.

My last lumpectomy and radiation was in 2003. I did fall over after that surgery, when walking along the sand. My sister had her dog and said " here you take her". i started to jog a bit and then fell flat on the sand. I do not think the sudden pressure on the lymph, etc would NOT have helped.

I do get a bit of swelling and discomfort from two lumpectomies and radiation and axillary clearance ( 11 nodes), plus sentinel node on other side.

Doing things too quickly  can " stir " things up a bit. It is a balancing act; not doing too much, or doing not enough.

The changes in HIGH and LOW air pressure I can " feel" in my body also.

In the past, I have had severe pain. I do think it was a  shingles attack. Long story, but it took a couple of years to settle.

Anyway, hope the discomfort you have settles robsue. Please take it easy for a while. It can take time to settle. It might be blocked lymph, or nerves healing. It might be scarring or a pulled muscle. I hope you find the cause and get some relief soon.

I would be interested to hear how you go.

    Kathy.

  • Went to GP yesterday-wanted reassurance that it was somehow related to radiation. (finished 10 May 2011). I  have 1 spot especially on same side as lumpectomy on my rib cage that is really sore espcially if apply pressure-I have stopped wearing a bra again. I have a bone scan booked for the 16 Sept.....Chest x ray showed nothing. Have looked on a few international blog sites and lot of people attribute problems with ribs to radiation. Just google rib pain and  breast cancer. Maybe you should request a bone scan for reassurance......I was sick of worrying about mine. Good luck
