Update....
Hi all, just felt like giving an update on how things are going in my world... My mum who had early BC surgery in May will be starting her radiotherapy soon. Luckily her tumour was a low grade very slow growing one which was good news. They told her it was a breast cancer associated with age (she's 72) and that there'd only be about a 2% chance of it ever coming back again. I was so pleased for her because they told her they expected to offer her a 'cure'. Mum is coping quite well physically, but emotionally she's not doing too well. She is very angry at her diagnosis, as she's never been sick before in her life. I was the same when i had my diagnosis in 2008...I felt a mixture of things...sadness, anger, shock, disbelief, grief etc etc. My mum has never had any contact with hospitals, specialists etc, so the whole experience is completely overwhelming for her. She doesnt understand why she had to have cancer..."why me?" she says. i know how that feels...why me?...why any of us? I just hope that as time goes on she will feel less angry and bitter about the whole situation. I had counselling to help me through...to try to make sense of it all in some way. I dont know what I would've done without that support. I mentioned this to my mum but she's not interested in any kind of counselling which is a shame. My dad is supportive... but emotionally supportive is another thing! I dont think he really gets it! I try to be as supportive as I can, but sometimes it's still raw for me and brings back memories of when I was having treatment. I know that sounds selfish. Anyway, that's my update for now. Over and out, Celeste xx
