I'm a little bit different from you but wanted to assure you about the process of having mastectomy and reconstruction done at the same time. For me I think it has helped mentally by having something there - even if it is not my own! Unfortunately my nipple could not be saved but at this stage I am not reconsidering a nipple reconstruction. Just happy to have a bump there!
I'm also going for gene testing but, like you, I think it will probably be negative as there is no history of breast cancer in the family.
