upcoming oncologist appt tomorrow

Hi Ladies,

I'm a little bit nervous about going to see my Oncologist tomorrow as he's changing the amount of chemo I am having, I have been really lucky as far as side effects go my main side effects have been bone pain, fatigue and oral thrush, my first 3 chemo rounds were FEC and he was concerned about the last 3 cycles being 3 weekly with Docetaxel instead he is wanting to change it to weekly cycles for 12 weeks with Docetaxel or the one starting with P apparently it reduces the side effects, I am going to follow what he wants me to do but 3 extra weeks of chemo YUK LOL, I suppose changing the drug has me more nervous as it's like round 1 of chemo all over not knowing what to expect side effects wise but we'll see I know this seems to be more common now apparently as I know the side effects can be severe with docetaxel just curious if anyone has any advice for me? I went and did a look good feel better workshop on 12/10 it was fantastic just being with other people in the same boat as you and knowing you were special, it really uplifted my confidence at a time it was a little low I would highly recommend to anyone who hasn't done a workshop if you can do one as you will feel amazing, but unfortunatly my hubby was asked to wait outside when he was there as my support person I understand though, if you take someone with you for support make sure it's a female as it's not nice for a man to have to wait outside for 2 hours.

Sending a cuddle and a smile

  • Hi Maryrose,

I know now that my oncologist has made the best decision which I agree with as he is worried about the side effects I have been suffering with and thinks changing my regime is what is best for me and it is I'm taking care of myself which is the main thing, I am so looking forward to my cousin arriving from Sydney next Thursday night it's been 8 years my daughter was 1 when she last saw her so we are all excited sending you a cuddle and a smile Anita xx??????????

  • Hi Marlee,

I am happy with the decision we came to today having paso taxel for 12 weeks as I have been suffering some bad side effects hence the change but that's okay I can handle it we are tough women we can do it sending a cuddle and a smile Anita xx??????????

  • Hi Rowdy,

I went to the oncologist today and he's changing it to weekly for 12 weeks from the 26/10 which means a blood test and chemo both in the same week it's disappointing but we have to do what the doctor says he knows what is best I have to trust him, I go out now with my head held high ever since I did the workshop it gave me extra confidence and I put on my makeup and feel almost normal but confident and I feel I will beat this and get my life back sending you a cuddle and a smile Anita xx??????????

  • Hi Anita, your oncologist must be adjusting your treatment due to your side effects. They are so good these days, I hope that it passes quickly for you. I was given 3 extra rads suddenly due to the extent of lymph node involvement. It does shake you up when they change thins, but they have you're best interests at heart. What a shame that your hubby had to wait outside, I'll be going to my workshop by myself, so I hope that it will be good to do. Sending you a big cuddle, Trace ????????

  • Hi Anita

Remember one appointment at a time and trust that the medical team are making decisions to benefit you. See what they recommend  and take it from there. Think of what you have achieved so far...

    Look after you.??

  • Hi Anita

i changed my therapy this round after two FEC cycles because it wasn't as effective as hoped. I went to Docetaxel earlier. My onc talked about more often docetaxel which means lower dose but more often. We went with the full dose every three weeks.

i was really worried about the side effects of docetaxel, like you said it's the Unknown.

With this first one I haven't found it any worse (not better though). I had the same amount of tiredness, my mouth is a bit sorer this time and some extra tummy pain but this was all managed with various things.

you might surprise yourself and if the increased treatments are not working they can always adjust it again.

the look good feel better was fun - it's a shame they didn't tell you about bringing your husband.

I hope it goes well for you

    you can do it :)

  • Hi Anita that was a shame they made him wait outside. I didn't think they would do that. I'm glad you enjoyed though it was alot of fun, When I did it I took my daughter and she chatted to others who were there to support their loved one and I think it helped her. When I think back that was when I realised my hair was falling out, I tried on some wigs and alot of my own hair was just dropping.

It is hared when they change things my oncologist dropped my dose as I was so sick with the first 2. The hardest thing is to trust them and hope they make the right decisions for us. Take carex
