unexpected trip back to hospital

well I'm 3 weeks post op from a wide local excision and sentinal node clearance and I'm back in hospital. It was a nipple sparing surgery but it is now necrotic sloughy with exudate. So now it has to be sliced off. Slice off the top of the cupcake so to speak. The surgeon asked me how I felt about losing my nipple. Well as it black and full of pus I can't wait to get rid of it. Unlucky for me as it rare this happens. Only hope it won't delay the onset of chemo in 9 days as I want to get on with it. Want to get rid of this cancer travelling through my body. Hope the pain will diminish once the necrosis is gone from my body.

I Hate being a patient. I'm a nurse. I love being a nurse and am fearful of losing this

  • thanks Natalie

all these comments makes me feel better. Like m not so alone. I'm getting excellent nursing care here. Can't complain. Have to stay 5 days in hospital.

    Bog hugs to you too

  • thanks for the good vibes. Yeas it's all sliced off now. Just have to wait for more biopsy results and keep the drain in. The nurses are amazing.  Would love to jump out of bed to help them. Better not.  Take care

  • I totally understand how you are feeling with the necrosis, I have a bad left boob atm because of it.its devastating isn't it to think you have gotten past a milestone and then necrosis sets in??I wish you all the best and hope you're feeling better soon

    big hugs xxxxx

  • Sending you positive vibes.

I lost my nipple due to mastectomy.  I now sport a new boob nipple less however I have been offered a nipple tattoo; for me to decide next visit to the Specialist.

The nurses that looked after me were truly lovely.

Take care and hopefully the necrosis is gone soon.

    Warm wishes  xx

    Hi Jenny,

It is frustrating when you hit a speed hump like this, I think that most of my tears during my treatment was when I hit an obstacle, and had to wait for that to be treated before I could get on with the getting better bit. And you being from a nursing background, would have more insight into how things should work normally. I hope that your next surgery goes well and that you can get onto the next stage.

Sending you a big cuddle, Trace xxxx
