Ugggggh

Hi ladies ,
so I had my second round of AC last Friday and not feeling as crap as the first round but have had a rough couple of days tired etc (you all know the drill) but now have a new thing going on I have no mouth ulcers or sore mouth but my mouth seems dry but phlegmy(?) at the same time , I feel like I need to spit it out a lot ..lol which is gross but wanting to know has anyone else suffered this and is there anything I can do about it . Also do not have the metal taste but have noticed I have last a lot of taste so everything taste the same like cardboard .
Hope all is well with everyone and enjoying the weekend xoxo

  • Soda water is good. Use it as a mouthwash first ( it helps fizz that grey stuff off your tongue) then chug down a few glasses of it.
  • Oh I remember that like it was yeasterday and it started a year ago. Got to the ulcer stage before I braved the biotene it actually helped along with the salt water rinses for the ulcers. It didn’t help that I had to take antihistamines for the hay fever which was the worst it had ever been. So it can’t hurt to give it a try. All that cleared after the chemo finished.
  • I had a really dry mouth after my second Ac. I remember drinking oodles of water. My taste was slightly altered but went back to normal. The thirst didn’t last more than 24 hours. Hope yours is the same. X
  • Everything does taste the same,  sadly even chocolate I found.  Try bicarb and water as mouth wash.  I think I ate my body weight in peppermints.  Fruit tingles are good as well. Add salt to everything!  Luckily wine tasted the same of I would have been really upset!  Thankfully it does go back to normal afterwards.
  • Biotene does a mouth spray and toothpaste if you dont want to use the mouthwash. My pharmacist said you just need to keep doing it over and over. Also try chewing gum which creates saliva. My chemo messes with my mouth too. Its like sludge. So gross!
  • Sadly losing your tastebuds (normally temporarily!!) is not unknown - mine walked on Taxol not A/C. I thought everything tasting of cardboard was pretty awful until a colleague who had been through the same thing a few years before noted that for a while everything she ate tasted burnt! Spicy food helps some, I lived on salads, eggs and avocado. Can't advise on the mouth though, I had a bit of dryness and thought about Biotene but same friend described it as tasting like someone else's spit, so I passed on that one. But others have found it helped. Best wishes
