Hi Cassie, yes I did have genetic testing early on (during chemo) and I'm BRCA1+. The result changed my treatment plan as I then had a risk reducing double mastectomy and implant reconstruction. Had I not known of the BRCA1 and continued on to have the planned radiotherapy, my reconstruction options would have been much more limited and difficult. I feel fortunate in this regard. Three years on from that I'm now about to have risk reducing removal of my ovaries, as my ovarian cancer risk is now starting to increase and at the age of 38 I feel this is the right time for me. I do not want to go through another primary cancer diagnosis and will do whatever I can to prevent this.
