Tram Flap recovery info

Happy New Year to all you lovely Ladies.

Back to the Dr for my 6 month checkup tomorrow, I'm sure all is well.

I am hoping some of you ladies may share with me your experiences and recovery time for a tram flap breast reconstruction. I am looking at surgery early August and I have booked a cruise for middle of October and am hoping that I am not pushing the time frame a little. Would love to hear any comments.

All the best to all. The J

  • Hi J

As long as you do your exercises that the surgeon gives you after your op, I think you should be fine with your October trip.  I had my TRAM done in November 2003 (so quite a while ago!).  It was probably about 6 weeks before I felt truly like myself again and had most of my movement back.  At first it is hard to stand up straight as you feel like you will pull yourself apart!  It doesn't happen though, so rest assured :)  I had no pain in my breast area and not a huge amount in my stomach either.  To me, it felt like pulled muscles in my stomach but the pain was internal as most of the skin on the outside lost its sense of feeling. There was some stiffness in my shoulder after my op but, once again, by doing my exercises I was fine in no time.

    Good luck!

    Louise :)
