TRAM Flap breast reconstruction

I am wondering if there is anyone that would be willing to talk to me about their experiences with TRAM Flap breast reconstruction?  My surgery is booked for mid December and I am feeling pretty anxious and nervous.  I have a plastic surgeons appt. next week so hoping most of my questions will be answered but it would be wonderful to speak to someone who has been through the same surgery or similar.

  • Hi there,

I had a TRAM flap reconstruction in 2003 (just had a Lat Dorsi one done in August too if you want info on that one!!). My surgery had to be delayed as I had an allergic reaction to the blue dye that they used for the lymphatic drainage tracking, so although I had my mastectomy in the July, I didn't have the TRAM flap reconstruction until the November.

It was difficult to stand up straight when I had first had the surgery.  They get you sitting up and out of bed pretty quickly and it hurts at first but the more you move, the better it is.

I am really happy with the result!  My tummy is nice and flat (which is a bonus!) and the breast is soft and a good shape.

If you've got any specific questions, please feel free to ask and I'll answer them as best as I can :)

    Take care,
