Today was the day

So, up until pretty much yesterday I had lost most of my hair from below the neck (and wasn't THAT exciting!! ) and the hair on my head was shaved, but hanging in there.

Yesterday I had a bit of a rest and when I got up, saw that there were bits of hair all over the pillow. EVERYWHERE. Of course I dashed to the mirror to see if the loss was visible, it wasn't, so I was happy.

From then on, every time I looked down, I had bits of hair on my shirt, or in my lap. Was paranoid about touching my head at all as I was terrified of looking like a moth eaten blanket! Woke up this morning to hair everywhere again, was over worrying about it, so I decided to have a shower and see what happened. (I hadn't wet my head in a few days, too worried about it coming out.)

Of course it started flowing down the drain, & I thought, "Bugger it, may as well grab the phone & take some photos." Told Zac as I dashed out to the loungeroom in a towel that he better have a good look now as I was not coming out of the bathroom til it was gone. (He HATED every second of me with a shaved head for the World's Greatest Shave, then was not too keen when I decided to shave it again before chemo - I knew he was not going to be a fan of shiny bald. Tough.)

So I took a bunch of photos as my hair fell away. I have put a few here so as to hopefully lessen the shock for others as it happens to them. The verdict? I LOVE not having to care about it now, and LOVE not having bits of hair all over the place!

I actually like the look as well, and probably won't cover it with cancery looking scarves...hats maybe, in hot weather, but I'm more interested in adorning my bald head, as opposed to hiding it away. I have some Indian friends who have asked if they can do a henna tattoo on it, going to run it by the Onc but guessing it will be ok!

It's not so bad ladies, I'm relieved now that it's all gone. Showers feel magnificent, and I can't wait til I get a head massage!

From Bobbie

(PS. Can an admin / moderator please fix the orientation of the bottom 3 photos? I have no idea why they are around the wrong way.  Thank you :-)

  • You really are a sweetheart. I love reading your blogs they always make me smile. My head kinda looks like photo no. 2 at the moment and now thanks to you i know what the next stage is gonna be. Thanks for the info. Best wishes Sue x

  • Well done Bobbie....taking control of your hair!

I was really worried about losing my hair...but same as you, took control & had #2 'cos I couldn't stand hairs everywhere! Having always been a bit too obsessed with my hair, I'm getting used to my baldness a little more each day....and have discovered I have quite a nice skull actually! (hee hee)..

I've just had chemo #3 .... still have some head hair but very thin & patchy....eyebrows & eyelashes still there....body & leg hair almost non existent!

The henna tattoo sounds like a great idea...this will be the only opportunity to give it a go! And head massage is the best...my 9 year old son loves doing it and I'm a happy recipient!

BTW enjoy reading your blogs....Jen x

  • Hi Bobbie,  I really admire your positive attitude.  I hope when the time comes for my hair to fall out, as I have been assured that it will, I will be as brave.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts and photos.

  • Good on you for being so positive about it all. You are much braver than I am. I am just about to have my third chemo and the hair is pretty much gone. A few stragglers hanging in there. I did do the shave but hated the tenderness of my head as my remaining hair fell out. I can not do the bald thing. Not sure I ever will. I have bought little caps and I am waiting on a wig from USA. I can't even show my husband or kids. I think it just helps me mentally if I am all covered up. Funny thing is I shaved my legs and the hair didn't grow back but now it is starting to in some parts. Not sure if that is normal. Still have my eyelashes and eyebrows. They might be next to fall out.

Anyway good luck with the rest of your journey!
