When I had BC in 2009 I kept going to the hairdresser and getting my hair styled and shaped when it grew back to 1-2cms. I never got curls. Just kept a short layered look which I ended up really liking and kept a longer version of it.
So I recommend cutting as soon as possible. Not shave necessarily, just shaping.
Probably depends on your genes too, whether you get curls or not?
