Tired !

Hello ladies, I am on day 5 after my first chemo and I'm ....tired and lethargic ! I am not on steroids anymore and in the last couple of days I 've lost all the " fake " vitality I had soon after chemo. Nausea is much better , I drink a lot and today I feel my appetite coming back , but this morning ,after going out with the family to a cafe ( walking 2km) , I came back home and felt like sleeping for the rest of the afternoon. No energies left . I have to say I didn't sleep much in the last couple of days so I may need to recover. I realise everyone is different and every treatment is different but I was wondering if there is an improvement on the fatigue and tiredness and usually when during the cycle this occurs? I want to go to the park with the kids, but right now, my head hurts and I feel weak. Is it normal to feel this tired and worn out? Thank you for reading this . Federica x

  • Hi Frederica

Its a horrible feeling....I had my 2nd round last Wednesday and the fatigue actually was worse this time than the first spent the whole weekend in bed but I have realised I just have to succum to it as there is nothing you can do besides work out what the hell you want to eat thats the hardest, I enjoy lemonade icy poles they cool the mouth and taste good. Here I am day 5 after Chemo and feel I am going for a walk soon actually still tired but dont have the heavy feeling so be kind to you and look forward to that day (day 10 for me) when you feel absolutely fantastic and well again. Live for this day !!!!

All the best, hugs Di xxx

  • Sounds quite normal for chemo! I felt the same way especially on my first cycle, I think it's such a hard hit on the system that it really knocks you about, especially when your used to energy and being physical it's a little unnerving not being able to push through the tiredness. I found I was like that for the first 10 days with each day getting a little better, be kind to yourself and rest when you can otherwise I found the tiredness would compound and I would feel worse. Take it easy. Tashie xxx

  • This is how you feel for a few days after you finish the steriods. When you think about it the chemo kills not just the cancer cells but lots of good cells too, so our bodies are under attack and not able to perform very well for a few days. It is important to just go with what your body needs and at this stage that is rest. You will start to feel better in a day or 2. Until then just rest, eat good food and some gentle exercise if you can. Week 2 and 3 your energy should return. Take care. Deanne xxx
